The Department of Social Work was established in the year 2009 and has been actively engaged in its domain fields since inception. The vision of the Department is to “achieve excellence in social work education, research and extension through creative, innovative, participatory and eco-friendly process of working guided by three cardinal values—honesty, non-violence and integrity, for the well being of society, especially for the marginalized and vulnerable groups. The objective of the department is to prepare students with moral and professional fitness so that they can address emerging challenges in their profession and serve the society. The department works in close collaboration with some pioneer social work institutes for creating better learning and career opportunities for students and faculty members.
The Department offers 2 year PG degree in Social Work (MSW) with three specializations namely Human Resource Management (HRM), Medical and Psychiatry (M &P) and Community Organization (CO).
The curriculum of the programme has three important components-theory, fieldwork and research. It enables the students to acquire necessary knowledge in methods of social work, and practical experience in scientific social research. To facilitate the above complex learning process, the training programme also includes independent study, lectures, seminars, research and concurrent and block fieldwork training. The existing social workers’ association enables students to organize seminars, conferences and workshops on different social issues. The Department collaborates with several Governmental and Non-Governmental agencies for field work training and research.
