Student Induction Programs play an important role in enhancing student awareness and
understanding of the key rules and responsibilities that support their effective transitioning to
collegiate education. Nallamuthu GounderMahalingam College, Pollachi conducted a One
Week Online Student Induction Program for the First year students of the College. The
program was organised and executed by the Department of English. The induction week
activities included Keynote sessions, Institution orientation, and Mentoring. These activities
were based on UGC’s guide to SIP, SAGE that covers different aspects of College life like
Socializing, Associating, Governing and Experiencing.
Keynote addresses on “Graduation, Self-skilling& Career Readiness” and “Towards
Excellence” encouraged the students to develop their technical skills and professional and
ethical behaviour during their years of graduation. Sessions on “Attitude alters your Altitude”
and “Communicate to make You Future-Ready” highlighted thepositive social relationships,
the right attitude, team play and communication skills as vital for successful adjustment to
college life.There was also a motivational lecture on the topic “Be a Winner” delivered by the
eminent speaker Dr. Kavidasan.
The Heads of the various Departments of the College briefed on the different approaches to
learning,to assist the students to cope with the demands of higher education environment.
They also held interactive sessions to develop in students a sense of ‘fit’ with the institution.
The extension activities Clubs and Cells of the College familiarised the students with the
various facilities and services available within the campus. The Office of Controller of
Examinations, IQAC and CDC acquainted the students with common University procedures,
the teaching, learning and assessment styles that are different from their higher secondary
schooling. Placement Cell and Academy for Professional Development emphasised the
graduates’ acquisition of employability skills.
The program also had a Feedback session that elicited positive comments from the students
on the sessions as “real ice breakers” and a Test session featuring content-related questions to
assess students’comprehension.
