The Department of Botany in Association with Institution’s Innovation Council of NGM College commemorated International Year of Millets 2023 (IYM) on 04.05.2023 at Department of Botany Lab, by 10.00 AM. In order to create awareness on beneficial effects of millets, some of the events like Making of millet receipe, Quiz competitition and hands on training on mushroom cultivation has been organized. About 75 students have actively participated and gained knowledge on Millets and its importance. The programme was started with welcome address by Dr. R. Rakkimuthu, Asst. Professor and Head, PG and Research Department of Botany, NGM College followed by the presidential address by Dr. A. Logamadevi, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Botany, NGM College, she insisted on importance millets and also millet recipes. The Demonstration and Hands on training on mushroom cultivation was provided Dr. P. Sathishkumar and Dr. A. M. Ananda Kumar Assistant Professors, PG and Research Department of Botany, NGM College. The prizes were provided to students participated in Quiz competition and Millet Recipe making. The prize winners for millet recipe making was Ms. N.Sindhuja, First Prize, Ms. Kaaviyapriya and Ms. Kamali devi, Second Prize, and Ms. Bhuvaneshwari and Ms. Deepika Secured Third Prize. The Prize winners for the Quiz competitions are Ms. Darsini, First Prize, Ms. Aswathy, Second prize and Mr. Yuvaraj received Third Prize. The prizes were distributed by Dr. A. L. Logamadevi, Head, Department of Botany, NGM College, Pollachi. The Faculty members, Dr. K. Rajalakshmi and Research Scholars Ms. Alagupreeti and Ms. Menaka of UG Department of Botany and Dr. A.M. Ananda Kumar and Ms. D. Sowmiya of PG Department of Botany were organized the programme.
